Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Lahore is under the authority of government, located on Board of Secondary Education,86 Mozang Road.It established its roots in 1954. Since Pakistan emerged on the world map ,the examination of the Matric and Intermediate level were conducted under the aegis of University of Punjab. The Board of Secondary Education, Punjab was established through the official announcement of the Punjab University Act(Amendment) Ordinance 1954.
The first ever examination which this board conducted was in 1955. Due to the enormous increase in the number of candidates two more boards were established for convenience at Multan and Sargodha. As a result of further bifurcation, Boards were also established at Rawalpindi and Gujranwala. In 1954, the Board under took large territorial jurisdictions for conducting examinations in the provinces of Punjab, Baluchistan, Azad Kashmir and Northern Areas in Pakistan. And for reaching overseas candidates it constituted examination centers at Kuwait and Nairobi. Current jurisdiction of Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education has been confined to the districts of Lahore,Kasur,Sheikhupura and Nankana Sahib.

Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education’s Preceding Agency is Ministry of Education(Pakistan). Having a large number of employees almost 1600 in 2007 this board managed the system well.The Minister Responsible is Rana Mashhood Ahmed(Chaiman of the Board). It is the main stream of education throughout the country being the biggest educational board. About 2 million students appear every year through this board. At Matriculation level this board award certificates for two types of group which are as follows: Science and Arts. At Intermediate level this board award certificates for six types of group which are as follows: Pre-Engineering,Pre-Medical,Computer Science,Commerce,General Science and Arts.
Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education conducts examination every year. The result of these Secondary yearly examinations is announced either in the end of July or in the start of August.
